A Short Biography Of The Piedmont Companies

Piedmont Companies is the major developer of Goodwill retail stores and support facilities throughout the Southeast and beyond. Piedmont has completed thirty Goodwill Retail facilities over the past ten years and has several under development at any one time. The company has the unique ability and expertise to assist qualified Goodwill organizations achieve their growth plans and improve profitability. From site selection to building design to the successful completion of construction, Piedmont provides access to an extensive experience base that will save time and money for the Goodwill client. In addition to development services, Piedmont provides financing options that facilitate ownership of properties. The company can provide assistance in structuring financial arrangements to purchase current and future facilities.

The company has developed a corporate campus for Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina. This unique campus includes a 37,500 square foot warehouse, a retail store and an administrative office building. Space has been reserved for another building to allow for continued growth of the organization. This facility will provide a single destination meeting a myriad of client needs on a well designed centrally located site.

Projects are currently under development for Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, Goodwill Industires of North Georgia, Goodwill Industries of Central Arizona, Goodwill Industries of Northern Arizona and Goodwill Industries of Manisota (Sarasota, FL).

Piedmont Companies has a twenty five year history of quality construction and has developed numerous residential subdivisions and commercial projects throughout the Piedmont area of North Carolina and coastal South Carolina.

William L. (Willie) Heafner
Willie Heafner has been in the real estate, building and development business for over twenty-eight years. He has experience in every aspect of the real estate business, focusing most of his attention to commercial real estate development for the past ten years. Mr. Heafner began working with Goodwill Industries more than ten years ago, and since that time has been directly involved in the development of thirty Goodwill retail stores, administrative buildings, warehouse facilities, and ADCs. He has aided the growth of Goodwill organizations by assisting in the development of construction plans, growth plans, financing arrangements and market analysis. Mr. Heafner understands the operations and needs of Goodwill organizations better than anyone in the development industry, and is able to use that knowledge to assist a Goodwill organization grow through improving donations that will drive future sales revenue and provide more capital for services.
Sandra (Sandy) Cashion
Sandra (Sandy) Cashion has been involved in the insurance, accounting, and construction industries for over thirty-years. A fifteen year employee of the Piedmont Companies, she serves as Corporate Vice President with her main focus being the development arm of the Piedmont Companies, Inc. In the last seven years, she has worked closely with the CEO's and Management teams of Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont, Goodwill of Lower South Carolina, Goodwill of North Georgia, and Southland Services serving as Project Manager to complete sixteen retail and donation centers, one strip center, one regional company headquarters, a warehouse facility, a two-story administrative building and a commercial subdivision.


Dennis Sadler

Dennis Sadler is a broker/developer based out of Phoenix Arizona. Prior to joining Piedmont, he was Chief Financial Officer of Goodwill of Central Arizona. During his time at Goodwill he arranged two tax-exempt financings including one to build three prototype retail stores. He is a former partner with Arthur Andersen & Co. He holds a degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Arizona and an MBA from the University of Washington.


David Johnson

David Johnson has an extensive background in retailing. Mr. Johnson will serve as the lead consultant on the Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh Master Plan project. Listed below are highlights of his career in retail:
· 5 years of commercial development
· 30 total years of retail sales and management
· 25 years of retail store management, merchandising, supervision, development and administration
1970's and 80's, administrator of 500+ stores, working directly with the President of the company.


Bill Spurrier
Bill Spurrier has been with Piedmont Companies, Inc. seven years, is a Registered Housing specialist, Licensed Broker in North Carolina, Licensed Real Estate Agent in South Carolina, Nehemiah Specialist, and N.C. Notary. Bill is currently the Broker in Charge of Piedmont Realty Associates. His primary duties are to oversee the daily activity of the realty office and provide assistance to the Brokers in the office. Bill is an active member of the Lincoln Co. Board of Realtors, NCAR, NAR, holds a BA in Business Administration from UNC Charlotte.
Bill worked in the finance and mortgage field for several years, then worked for a National Soft Drink Bottling Co. and was there for thirteen years.


Gary Faulkenbury
Gary Faulkenbury is a construction manager and contractor with over thirty-five years of experience in the commercial and residential arenas. His primary duties are construction monitoring and management.

Craig Upshaw

Craig Upshaw is a broker/developer based out of Lincolnton, North Carolina. He has five plus years experience developing commercial real estate and several years experience in multifamily development and construction. A native of South Carolina, he holds a degree in Accounting from the University of South Carolina and a MBA from Clemson University.
